Where to Exchange Money in Bangkok — SuperRich vs the Banks on the Same Evening, for $500, €500 and £500 (Checked 23 September 2026)
On 23 September 2026 SuperRich's Ratchadamri head office paid ฿33.18 per dollar, ฿37.80 per euro and ฿44.05 per pound; Kasikornbank and Bangkok Bank posted rates 1.0–1.7% lower. What that means on £500, the SuperRich airport branch, which notes get the best rate, and why the ATM costs more than either.
We took the cash buying rates for US dollars, euros and pounds from the rate pages of two exchange chains and two banks on 23 September 2026. The best was SuperRich's head office in Ratchadamri for all three currencies. The banks' posted rates were 1.0% to 1.7% lower. On £500 that is ฿370 less at the bank.

Two warnings about this table. First, the times differ: the SuperRich rates were posted at 17:51–17:59, the Kasikornbank rate at 15:13 and the Bangkok Bank rate at 14:50, so part of the gap is the market moving during the afternoon. Second, the banks' figures are the rates on their websites; a branch counter or an airport booth run by the same bank may use a different rate. We could not get Vasu Exchange's rates because its website did not load.
The airport
SuperRich has a branch at Suvarnabhumi on level B, by the Airport Rail Link, not in the arrivals hall. Its rate on 23 September was 0.3–0.4% below the head office, which on £500 is ฿75. That is less than a taxi into town to reach the better rate. The bank booths in the arrivals hall publish no rates online, so we could not compare them; change only what you need for the first day there, or walk down to level B.
Cash versus the ATM
A Thai ATM charges ฿250 per withdrawal on a foreign Visa card and ฿350 on a Mastercard, at every major bank (fee schedules, September 2026). Withdrawing ฿16,500 with a Visa card costs ฿250 in the Thai fee alone, about 1.5%, before your own bank's charges and the card network's rate. Exchanging $500 at SuperRich costs nothing but the rate. If you are arriving with cash anyway, the exchange booth wins. The details are in ATM fees on foreign cards.
Which notes get the best rate
Every rate board lists several rows per currency by note size. The rates above are for the large notes: $50 and $100, €100 to €500, £50. Smaller notes get a lower rate. Booths also refuse or discount notes that are torn, written on, stamped or heavily creased, and some list a lower rate for older series of US dollars. Bring clean, large notes.
Before you go
- Take your passport. Licensed exchange counters in Thailand ask for it and record the transaction.
- Count the money at the counter and keep the receipt.
- Do not change money with anyone who approaches you in the street, whatever rate they offer.
